How StayFront.AI measures AI visibility
Written for business owners, not engineers. This page explains what we monitor, what the numbers mean, and — just as importantly — what they do not mean.
What AI visibility means in StayFront
AI visibility describes whether an AI-assisted discovery experience surfaces your business when someone asks a question a real customer would ask. It is not a ranking position and it is not a guarantee. It is an observation of whether your business appeared, how it was described, and who appeared alongside it.
What a monitored customer question represents
A monitored question is a realistic phrasing a customer might use — for example, “where can I get my brakes done near downtown” rather than a keyword string. Each monitored question is stored so the same question can be asked again later and the results compared.
Why multiple questions are used
A single question produces a single answer, and that answer can change. Monitoring a set of questions covering different services, phrasings and locations gives a far more honest picture than one lucky or unlucky prompt.
What a business mention means
A mention means your business name appeared in the answer to a monitored question. We also record how it was described, because an inaccurate or vague description is a different problem from not appearing at all.
What query coverage represents
Query coverage is the share of your monitored questions where your business appeared. It tells you how broadly you are surfacing across the questions that matter — not how you rank.
What competitive visibility means
Competitive visibility records which other businesses appeared for your monitored questions. It answers a practical owner question: if a customer asked this and did not get me, who did they get?
What a visibility gap represents
A gap is a monitored question where your business did not appear but comparable businesses did. Gaps are the input to prioritised actions, because they point at a specific service, location or phrasing that is unclear about your business.
What comparable scans mean
A scan re-asks the same monitored questions under the same conditions so results can be compared over time. Comparability is the point: a change is only meaningful if the question did not change.
Why results vary between AI systems and over time
Different AI systems use different sources, different retrieval behaviour and different models, and each of those changes over time. Two systems can reasonably give different answers to the same question on the same day, and the same system can answer differently next week.
This is why we report observations across a set of questions rather than a single verdict.
Why one AI answer is not a permanent ranking
An AI answer is generated for a specific question at a specific moment. It is not stored as a ranked list that your business occupies a position in. Treating one favourable answer as a permanent placement — or one unfavourable answer as a verdict — is the most common misreading we see.
What StayFront can observe
We can observe whether your business appeared for a monitored question, how it was described, which competitors appeared, how coverage changes between comparable scans, and which gaps repeat often enough to be worth acting on.
What StayFront cannot guarantee
We do not control ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity or any other external system, and no company does. We cannot force a recommendation, guarantee placement, or promise a position. Anyone offering a guaranteed AI ranking is describing something the platforms do not provide.
Why ongoing monitoring beats a one-time manual test
Typing one prompt into ChatGPT tells you about one prompt on one day. Repeating a consistent set of questions over time tells you whether the work you are doing is changing anything — which is the only measurement an owner can actually act on.
